Mission of the Science Department
The focus of science instruction at Bennett’s Mill Middle school is to engage our students physically and mentally through a hands-on laboratory based program. Our program allows students to investigate both the concepts and process skills of science. Technology is infused throughout the science curriculum. Our teachers provide a challenging environment that promotes students to question, think critically, and make decisions based on evidence.
The goal of our science program is for each child not only to acquire science knowledge in the areas of earth science, life science and physical science, but to gain an appreciation and love for science and to always want to learn more about their natural world. Bennett's Mill Cleans Up at the Regional Science Fair
All seven of our science fair projects placed yesterday at the regional science fair. The team of Zach Birkhead, Christopher Cassidy, and Steve Dan were awarded a second place for their work with testing lake water in Fayette County and comparing the water quality with the surrounding population numbers. Zoe Know was awarded a first place for her work with various methods of rooting African violets.
Awarded first place and continuing on the the Georgia State Science Fair at the end of March in Athens are April Johnson for her work with various natural tints used to make solar cells, Jamie Rogers for her work with water quality and stream flow, Lindy Simmons for her work with conductance of sports drinks, Javi Slough for his work with acidity of ant stings, and the team of Hannah Lachmayr and Rebecca Stoker for their work with the effect of windspeed on sound wave frequency. Congratulations to all of the Broncos who represented our school and county so very well. Faculty and Staff
