A Letter from Senora Harper
Dear Students and Parents,
I am looking forward to a successful and exciting school year with your students. We have chosen the program ¡En español! to introduce your student to the Spanish language and Spanish speaking culture. It is a standard-based program that includes interesting topics, authentic culture, and real-life communication to motivate students to master Spanish. Its instruction uses a balanced approach that practices reading, writing, listening, and speaking, and introduces students to cultures throughout the Spanish-speaking world. My goal is to give students a foundation for exploring and understanding Spanish-speaking cultures and people. Through completing the activities, students will employ critical thinking skills as they compare the Spanish language and its cultures with those of their own community. They will also connect to other academic subjects, such as math, science, history and language arts, using the knowledge of Spanish to access new information. I hope that your students will become aware of how Spanish is used every day in the real world. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns throughout the school year. I am looking forward to a rewarding year as your student successfully discovers the advantages of learning the Spanish language. Muchas Gracias Sra. Harper FCBOE Requirements for Foreign Language
Fayette County Requirements for Foreign Language Classes
Fayette County has developed the following guidelines for placing students interested in a first year foreign language class in lieu of 8th Grade Reading: 1) CRCT score in Reading - 900+; 2) CRCT score in Language Arts - 900+; 3) 7th Grade Reading grade - 96+; 4) 7th Grade Language Arts grade - 96+; AND 5) SRI Lexile score - 1101+. Students meeting this criteria will be deemed strong candidates for first year foreign language and will be invited to participate in Spanish I in lieu of 8th Grade Reading. Parents may decline the invitation, however, and keep their student in 8th Grade Reading. * Students from out-of-state must present documentation of a strong academic ability in Reading and Language Arts in order to be placed in a foreign language class in lieu of 8th grade reading. |
