CRCT season at any elementary or middle school is a time filled with number two pencils and testing butterflies, but for the Bennett's Mill Middle School Fine Arts Department, LGPE season has just as many butterflies - minus the pencils. The Large Group Performance Evaluation, the "CRCT" for Band, Chorus and Orchestra, covers all of the curricular objectives in the field of music and determines the strength of a school's musical program.
BMMS students will perform a prepared repertoire appropriate for their level, and they will be judged on the accuracy of their performance. In addition, the students will also “sight-read” a new piece of music (play through a piece for the first time) and be evaluated on that skill as well. Some of the criteria the judges evaluate include: Technique, Tone, Intonation, Balance, Musical Interpretation, and even Appearance and Discipline.
The LGPE is NOT intended as a competition between schools - rather each ensemble is trying to achieve a “personal best.”
6th Grade Orchestra and the Combined 7th and 8th Grade Orchestra will be performing at LGPE on Monday, March 19th.
